They like to see a stable address and usually look for at least 2/3 years in one place. Also if you are renting then you are likely to move on and they could loose track of you. Do you have a bank account and for how long?

There should be a phone number on the letter for you to call and request a "specific reason of decline" letter. If not call the company and ask what exactly the reason was. The company is required to inform you of the reason of decline.

occasionally when stores get too many forms returned they stick to a quota of cards they give out. For example if 10,000 applied countrywide that month at £100 each and they issued every one, they could potentially have £1 million worth of clothes go out on credit for just that month! Some stores just cant afford that sort of risk so they have cut off limits. Especially this time of year.

you might have a good record, but you could be considered a risk if you have a lot of cards. the bank's thinking is that if you were to max out all your present cards, would you be able to pay for theirs? if this is the case, cancel any cards you don't use.

you should also get a letter in the mail within a few days from the bank. the store isn't under any obligation to tell you why you were declined, but you should get a follow-up letter from their financer explaining why.

Yes it is probably because you have not lived at your current address for long enough.
Never mind - you didn't want one anyway
