Was Oasis or The Strokes ever as good or better than The Beatles?

gummi & suga bear devourer asked:

Before I get ripped to shreds by Beatle loving fanatics … know this: I am 24 years old, so, really never lived the Beatles era … I have heard most of their songs, but, honestly, I really don’t see how any of their songs are better that Oasis’s “Wonderwall, “Don’t look back in anger” or “The Masterplan” and The Stroke’s “Someday”, “The end has no end” or “Last nite”.

Am I the only one who thinks this???

You should listen to the Beatles canon first, in it’s entirety, before making the judgement call. the White Album alone is deserving of multiple listens.

Yes, you are the only one who thinks this.

well, I could possibly understand your confusiond regarding Oasis – but theStrokes !!?? c’mon – they’re practically one-hit wonders esp when you compare them to the etire and legthy Beatles catalogue..

I think the context of the time is important too.. Beatles were breaking new ground – whereas Oassi and Atrokes were cashing in on established trends..

If the songs you mention are any good, it is most likely because of the Beatles’ influence. The Beatles transcended music; they impacted almost every area of popular life (fashion, religion, politics…). Ask yourself this – will people still be listening to Oasis and The Strokes in forty years? I tend to doubt it. If they do, it will most likely be the few songs you listed.

Additionally, if I’m to compare Oasis to any band from the British Invasion, it would be to the Kinks – not because of any musical connection, but because it’s a band with two brothers who can’t stand each other.

You had to be there to experience the whole Beatles trip. Oasis and the strokes will never come close to what the boys from liverpool ment to not one but many generations of young and old alike.

If you don’t see it yet, it’s just a matter of time. Spend time listening to Revolver, the White Album, and Abbey Road. Check out the transformation from “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” to Magical Mystery Tour and the aforementioned White Album. In under a decade. Ridiculous.

PS- I’m 26- Being the kid of parents who were kids themselves during the Beatles’ reign is no excuse! ;-)

Oasis was a very poor copy of the Beatles. They tried to copy their sound and ****** at it. And the Strokes, get real. Listen to some good music.
