the 2000′s the worst decade in rock/pop history ?

Friday 19 November 2010 @ 11:25 pm

Alberto V asked:

60′s: beatles, stones, kinks, the who, hendrix .. psychedelia
70′s : floyd,pistols, clash, bowie,genesis .. punk , prog rock, glam
80′s : live aid, queen, depeche mode, cure, u2, new wave, metal, goth etc
90′s : nirvana, oasis, radiohead, blur, pulp ..grunge,britpop, …
are the 2000′s the worst ? no big names so far .. why? is rock in decadence ? no more talent ? can in the next 3 years emerge a new band ? new music style ? is music in crisis ??
what you think ?
for those who complain at me saying I didn’t include their fav band :
Making the question long including off all the bands from every decade would take forever .. that’s why I added some of them … the fact I didn’t mention doesn’t mean I don’t know or I ignored them …
if I forgot industrial, goth, trash, rockabilly, ska, reggae, etc .. and the kinks, deep purple, zeppe, elvis, dylan, etc I apologize .. it’s just about space …

For Oasis fans, or people who have seen them live recently?

Ian asked:

Oasis have been my favourite band since I was 7. I was fairly obsessive in my younger days, and I even love their **** songs because they formed the soundtrack to my childhood! Admittedly, I don’t care much for the rubbish they put out post 2000. Anyway, i’ve noticed from seeing them on tv of late that Liam now backs away from the microphone halfway through words, seemingly out of breath, and unable to keep up. Am I going to be really upset when I see them at V festival on Sunday, having idolised them for the last 12 years?

Is there a studio version of ‘I am the Walrus’ by Oasis?

Saw them a couple of times and always loved their version. Just wandered if they had a studio version recorded or whether it was just a live track for them.

Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man asked:

I’ve got a lot!
Everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
- – - Pink Floyd, “Eclipse”

And the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls,
And tenement halls,
And whispered in the sounds of silence.
- – - Simon & Garfunkel, “Sounds of Silence”

How many times can a man turn his head,
and pretend that he just doesn’t see?
- – - Bob Dylan “Blowing in the Wind”

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I’d like to be
Now is not the time to cry
Now’s the time to find out why
I think you’re the same as me
We see things they’ll never see
You and I are gonna live forever
- – - Oasis “Live Forever”

See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you
Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait . . . without you
- – - U2, “With Or Without You”

The love you take is equal to the love you make.
- – - The Beatles, “The End”

Take a straight and stronger course
To the corner of your life.
Make the white queen run so fast
She hasn’t got time to make you a wife.
- – -Yes, “I’ve Seen All Good People”

Yesterday don’t matter if it’s gone.
- – -Rolling Stones, “Ruby Tuesday”

Young man says you are what you eat – eat well
Old man says you are what you wear – wear well
You know what you are, you don’t give a damn
Bursting your belt that is your homemade sham
- – - Genesis, “Dancing With the Moonlit Knight”

angeldust asked:

I have been listening to Rob Dickinson and company for YEARS, and I am always amazed to find out that very little people have heard of them. I am not surprised when American friends have not heard of them, but after living in the UK for over ten years and meeting very few fellow fans, I am astounded. Surely I am not the only person who adores Rob’s deep, haunting voice, and the swelling, mesmerizing music. A friend of mine once chastised me for listening to them, saying that they reminded him of “a Poor man’s Oasis with a lot of feedback”! Maybe it IS just me.

I just wonder why they never caught on like some of the other less capable (in my humble opinion) shoegazing bands.

The funny thing is, I didn’t even know how the band looked until I saw them live in 1999. So, that should disarm people who accuse me of being a fan because the lead singer is hot! :-D
