It doesn’t cost anything to enter the contest, or to make an entry to the paper.
I am the Creative Writing Editor for the Street Sights newspaper, and I extended the deadline so that we would get more entries.
The reason that the contest is limited to Rhode Island is to enable the people in our newspapers distribution area a chance to win.
However, if anyone anywhere has a poem that they would like put in our newspaper, feel free to send one in.

You know there’s something missing
In my life
The beggar said to the prince?
I’ve got a hole in my shoes
To let the water in ?
trade-in, kingpin
While you live in your palace
With servants & next of kin
Drinking, laughing, rolling
About drinking tequila & gin
You know there’s something missing
In my life
The beggar said to the frog ?
Searching looks on the skyline
You know you can
Go back to your pond
& swim
Leap frog & dwell
While I live
Without shelter a living hell
Living razors fine line
Bushes America has come
Crashing in ?
Dumbbell
Farewell. Bluebell, Michelle
Missing pieces
Left on the shore
Choked by some smoke
Eyeshore, downpour,
Broke in a desert
No oasis
Rain don’t come
Further down a dirt road
A beach with no treasure
Winter, wrestler, shiver
Shrapnel, farewell
Wearing a stained raincoat
You don’t know
Wow.
City lights,
vacant buildings,
so much wonder…
the water droplets
screamed
out of the sky,
trying to
escape
the clouds grasp
on them.
Racing,
ripples
of water
ripped through the gray,
endless abyss.
Gasping,
heart
thrusting
through my chest.
A-mazing!
Nothing
could end this.
The lights,
Glinting,
through the blur
of it all.
You can’t imagine
the beauty!
The oasis of blue.
The sapphire snake
rushed through the barren ground.
The river.
No one
understands.
Thoughts
rushing through
the surface of my
imaginative nature.
Beautiful.
Love for an
non-living thing.
The earth…
but wait it is
alive!
Blooming
with brilliance.
Containing all
joy.
Bring down…
lift up…
around and through!
You don’t know.
The water
gliding
across
everything.
Seeds sprouting!
Lives changed?
Do you know?
Better yet do you care?
No!
Take some time…
look around…
appreciate it,
live it!
Version one
So here i sit, wallowing in my regret. Like oh so many others, with no difference in the mistakes accept that they are mine. I found my mysery hiding in my own self pity. I found my heart hiding right before my eyes. All of this time, i must have been blind. I found my brain hiding so far up my *** that every decision that i made was coated and followed with ****. I found my legs running from the truth, and i found my eyes fixed only on you. Forgive and forget is too much to ask. Forgive and forget is just too much to ask because fragile minds lead to decisions that cause perminent incisions. I live over and over again the mistakes that i have made. This music in my mind keeps my mode set at rewind. This rhythm keeps my concentration at bay. Its become so hard just to make it through the day. Pay attention. Pay attention so you may move on. Pay attention so you can live, not relive. Try to believe that everything happens for a reason, despite knowing otherwise. These are just little white life brightening lies. I cannot focus and i cannot decide if its caused by the sickness or the sadness. Or both. Throughout the day i put on a face, making simple conversations with simple people. And all the while, i know that they cannot be allowed near the real me. But ive found that there is beauty here if you know where to look. I will never leave. I will remain in the repeat. Its so sad that in all of ones dismay, only others can see their decay. We are blinded by the black fog of self pity, but all that this accomplishes is the darkening of ones dreams. Wake up. Your rainy days only wetten the cracks of the dry, desolute illusion you relentlessly bury yourself in. Reality is the oasis, not the wasteland.
Version two
So here i am, wading in the waters of regret and demand. Like so many others, with no variation in the mistakes accept that they are mine. I found my mysery hiding in my own self pity. I found the truth hiding right before my eyes. all of this time, blinded by my own discuise. I found my brain hiding so far up my *** that every decision that i made was coated and followed with ****. And after all of this time, i found my eyes still, fixed only on you. Forgive and forget is just too much to ask because fragile minds lead to decisions that cause perminent incisions. I live over and over again the mistakes that i have made. This rhythm keeps my concentration at bay. Its become so hard just to make it through the day. Pay attention so you can live, not relive. Try to believe that everything happens for a reason, despite knowing otherwise. These are just little white life salvaging lies. I cannot focus and i cannot decide,is it the sickness or the sadness. But ive found that there is beauty, found only at the end of the road. You will find salvation when there is nowhere else to go. For too long i have beeln blinded by the black fog of self pity, but all that this accomplishes is the darkening of ones dreams. Wake up. Your rainy days only wetten the cracks of the dry, desolute illusion that you bury yourself in. Reality is the oasis, not the wasteland.
What is the meaning of this song? It feels like there is something deeper to these lyrics…
Champagne Supernova
By: Oasis
How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you when we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?
Some day you will find me Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky
Wake up the dawn and ask her why
A dreamer dreams she never dies
Wipe that tear away now from your eye
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you when we were getting high?
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky
Cos people believe that they’re
Gonna get away for the summer
But you and I, we live and die
The world’s still spinning round
We don’t know why
Why, why, why, why
How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you when we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky
Cos people believe that they’re
Gonna get away for the summer
But you and I, we live and die
The world’s still spinning round
We don’t know why
Why, why, why, why
How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you when we were getting high?
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
