80′s rock vs. 90′s rock.Who wins?

The Foil Frontman asked:

I just recently answered a question about ’90s rock vs. 00′s rock and found the question to be…in a word, laughable. But, to me, the question I’m now posing seems not to be at all…..

Let’s consider:

Nirvana, Alice in Chains, STP, Pearl Jam, Sublime, Tool, Black Crows, Matchbox 20,
Smashing Pumpkins, NIN, Live, Incubus, Kravitz, Foo Fighters, Bush, RHCP, Radiohead, Oasis, Fuel, Counting Crows

vs.

Whitesnake, Metallica, Ratt, Bon Jovi (lol), Van Halen, The Police, Slayer, GnR, Queensryche, Genesis, Dire Straits, The Cars, The Clash, Springsteen, *** Pistols, U2, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, Priest

(I know some of these bands started in the ’70s, just like some bands above started in the ’80s, but let’s consider these bands where they are for arguments sake)

I know there’s bands i’m not thinking of in both categories, but just mention them in your argument, this is all off the top of my head….
I can’t call this hands down either way. I’ve spent a lot of time listening to this music. I’d love to call ’90s (due to my age) but the ’80s had some rockin’ @ss bands. As a matter of fact, I wrote this question ready to call ’90s, but as I wrote more and more ’80s bands, my opinion started to sway.

Thank God you guys can’t thumbs down me here, but thanks to my love of ’90s rock, I’m calling a draw.

Advantage: Everyone
apc: awesome bands

80′s wins for sure, although there was alot of good music in the 90′s but my vote goes for the 80′s.

    I vote the 90′s.
    They are way better bands.
But I do like Aerosmith,Metallica, Van Halen, and GnR.

Easily the 80s win, they had way better rock music. You forgot Iron Maiden.

  8. rizinoutlaw - May 20th, 2010 at 1:30 pm

the 80s. You forgot the hardest rocking, hardest partying band out there, Motley Crue. They redefined rock n roll as did many in the 80s. Some did in the 90s, but how many of those bands you listed are still around?

    80s hand down no competition.

80′s no contest. Much better music and better musicians by far.

Eek. If I had to choose Id have to say 90s, but Id rather not choose cause both the 80s and 90s rocked.

Ooh there are some good 80′s bands there, but I’m gonna have to go with 90′s!

90s rock isn’t bad, but 80s has to win this is a total landslide

80′s- you just can’t beat Metallica and Van Halen, period. =)

Well, I **** the cheesy synth sounds of the 80′s, (like the thompson twins) and I **** ‘hair metal’ from the 80′s (Poison)…so…

    90′s for me.

  15. rs4clone - May 30th, 2010 at 11:38 am

    80′s w/o question

  16. Demolition Icon - May 31st, 2010 at 4:22 pm

90′s! I grew up during the grunge era. That’s an awesome list you posted for the 90′s and 80′s bands.

Attitude-wise, no one can match-up with the Grunge bands and Pantera so I’ll choose 90′s rock. They’ll definitely emerge as winners if ever they duke it out, “Royal Rumble” style.

But MUSIC-wise, it would be very hard to tell in my case. But I’m gonna lean a “weeny-bit” to 90s.

the 90s hav some damn good bands, but it doesnt scratch the 80′s, they just freakin rocked :)

I hid my head in the sand until the 80s were over. I just never got into the hairbands.

I am going to have to go with the 90s. I am sure most will disagree. The decade that brought us AIC, Tool and NIN? PWNS!!!

The 80s brought us Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Poison, Motley Crue… YUCK!!!
